Title: Axle shaft questions
Post by: essjay on August 19, 2009, 02:46:18 PM
I have been making a list of what I want to get later, when I compile a spares box, are the axle shafts in the front and rear diff of my sammy the same? so I could get just one set and use them for whatever breaks?  what are my chances of breaking an axle though, I mean I dont think I would have to really worry about that till I get bigger tires, Im all stock now, and plan to stay this way, might get lockers.

what you think?

Thanks

WOW it just hit me, they cant really be the same, unless I have the only sammy with 4 wheel steer LOL

they are all different and if you are all stock then you'd have to try really hard to break one. I've been running SOA with 31/33's for years and never broke anything. I've got back to stock gear with 30's running 512's and I haven't had a problem yet.

Running stock is alot of fun because almost anything is an obsticle....if you can drive then you can follow alot of people that have mods. MY LJ on 30's could go alot of places a Jeep on 33's couldn't.

Lock the back and have fun.

Different axles all around.  But if you get a set of heavy duty front axles your splines will be the same, so you can carry one spare diff for both ends. :D

Also, if your going to look at swapping your rear axles on the trail make sure you get the SJ-410 backing plate conversion done.  Otherwise you need to swap your drum brakes at the same time.
