My 3 speed auto has been reading at the low end of the warmed up scale when warm. I added probably 6 ounces of fluid today and now it is up to the flexible part of the dipstick. Can I just take off one of the hoses that goes to the radiator at the radiator to allow a little to drain out? I am not driving it until I get this corrected. I know too much fluid can cause the tranny seals to leak.

yes you might have to start it, whats wrong with the drain plug on the pan?

There is no plug on the pan.

I think I might be able to get some long fuel line tubing and suck some out through the dipstick tube. I'll try that tonight.

Yeah, you can get some fluid out either way... drawing it out of the fill tube is easier I think... & having it overfilled can be worse than leaking seals, it can froth the fluid & cause pressure loss, which will ruin the tranny.
But, my next question is: Have you already dropped the pan & changed the filter & fluid? This is often neglected on auto trannys & a clogged filter will ruin it real fast too. I know you just bought this 1... for me a tranny flush/filter change is on top of the list for newly bought vehicle. If you haven't already, I'd do that 1st & then refill to proper level. The cost of a tranny filter/gasket/fluid is a lot less than rebuilding a tranny. It's cheap insurance.

On my old 90 I did replace the fluid. On this one the fluid is bright pink so it looks like it has been done at some point in the not too distant past. I should plan to do it though.

I got a siphon with 6 foot of clear hose, a pump bulb and another foot of hose. The pump wasn't all that useful, but I was able to suck on the short end like a straw and draw fluid up into the bulb without letting it go into the short hose. I took out about 3 ounces and the level appears to be correct.

That is a pretty good way to do it. I have used pumps that are designed to pull oil from the oil pan on boats with some success. The little electric ones tend to burn out with heavy use though. :D

i have used one of those "mity vac" hand vacuum pumps that you use for bleeding brakes, for the exact same problem, it worked great.
