Title: Odd issue with Acceleration on 1.6 16valve 92 4 door
Post by: RJkick on August 25, 2009, 01:10:32 PM
About a year ago I had this issue and then twice in the last 2 weeks.

First when the gas is pushed the rpm and engine sputter and it will not idle, however, if you press the gas just a little it holds the rpm and you can shift and drive, but as soon as the pedal is pushed a little bit it will sputter.  After letting it sit for maybe 3 or 4 hours it starts up holds idle and runs fine.  Unfortunately I cannot duplicate this on command and when I make it to an auto shop it runs fine and I am told there is no issue.  I replaced the fuel filter but since it runs fine after it sits and then runs fine after that I don't think the fuel filter or fuel system is having any issues. At least it is only happening once or twice a year

Any thoughts?

You might want to check your EGR system.  A blocked passage, or stuck EGR valve can have the same symptoms.
