Title: Which Trans to use? Auto or 5 speed?
Post by: Fabricator1 on August 27, 2009, 06:11:56 AM
I have a 98' Tracker with a 16 valve, manual 5spd. I installed a Calmini 3" suspension lift and 3" body lift on 31" swampers. I have a 3spd auto from a 90' tin top.  My question is which would be the better trans for 4 wheeling?

Any thoughts?

To be honest I like manual over auto so i can control my rolling "technique". But some of the other guys like autos so they dont have to put down their drink =p

Just my 2 cents

We do mostly trail riding with some mud/sand in northern MI.

I agree, so far the manual has worked great for being able to control wheel spin. My good friend owns Transmission Technologies Inc. here in Lansing and suggested swapping in the auto since I have a whole parts vehicle.  Either way both tranny's need to be freshend up. I was concerned with durability of the auto trans since I am not easy on equipment.

Thanks for the input!
Weekend is here, heading to the dunes.
