So i haven't seen any threads on HOW people have done their HID conversions. I was wondering if someone would like to share their experience in install and fabrication.
I would love to know if anyone else has replaced their OEM Head lights to something more........ aggressive..
Thanks

Ive been toying with getting a conversion kit from my work, we can order in aftermarket kits that mount in the stock bulb location and just need the ballasts wired up. pretty straight forward with the included instructions
you can get different kits that use different bulb mounts.

Yeah the only issue i have with the HID's is the seals on our OEM lights.......I just redid them and their is condensation. >=0
Anyone have some ideas on how to keep these things water/dust free. To insure our HID life span...

are you sure you got all the moisture out before you resealed them, you might try leaving the bulb out

yeah I took them apart and let them dry out in my a/c room so the air was dry. I used a Type II gasket maker and let it set (soft kind that doesn't harden) on the plastic bezel so i could get a nice seal all the way around with out having to have them stick together(easy removal for future tweaking) Im using syllvania's for now. Still not that bright...thinking the back reflector isn't up to par.
Any idea's for lights? anyone know of new Projector lights? that fit the stock OEM?

You can get H4 w/ glass lenses so it will be component, for $30 shipped on eBay.
Then put a H4 HID kit in it...

i got hid kit on mine easiest mod you can do
i just got a plug and play one and all i had to
do is pull a line from battery to ballast and only
1 of then like harness go into the ballast and
then from balist it goes to bulb and the bulb
has little waves to seal in the h4 hole worked
perfectly fine had them for while now and never
had a problem with them.

I ended up buy a new set of lights off ebay using Sylvania 9004A True Blue's They're quite nice on and off road. Word to the wise on the head lamps though. Dissasemble them before hand to make sure quality is up to par. On mine the head lamps adjusters were stuck to the threads of the scerws. I messed one side up and had to fab a new housing to adjust my beams. but so far so good.

Wait for Jookycola to post on here, his signature pic shows a nice headlight mod on a Tracker. I want to find out what he did and where he got that, they look amazing. I wonder how bright they are though.
I'm running wal-mart driving lights in the front (2) and I installed Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs in teh OE housings. I get good light. Running hunting trails on three weekends already this season and when I am driving out to the hunting spot at 4:30am, the fog lights light up down low in front, and the high beams reach out great. Not to mention the lights mounted in the mirrors.

And Silverstars last roughly 1-1.5 years, and cost 50 bucks a pair. Usually Checker/Schucks/Kragen offers rebates too, so they're 30 bucks a pair sometimes.

Dj is that the trail tough bumper? I never asked them if it had plates to mount lights where yours are at.......i just dont wanna re powder coat the damn things at protech......

Here's the best close-up I had on my computer on how I mounted them. If you want a better pic, let me know, I will go take one for you. But I just used metal screws and screwed them directly to the large "box" area on the frame, right behind that triangular area.
This is before the lights from what pics I had on file already without taking more pics, HTH

With the lights:

(Ignore the hitch, trail tough has long since sent me a new bumper with the hitch welded right) :)
Same for the rear, but the rear I mounted a little differently, but they're still in the matching triangular area. Bolted them through with 10-24 bolts to the piece of angle iron that's part of the new bumper.

See the piece of plate towards teh top of the bumper? That's where I drilled and bolted.
Shortened legs of light bracket, drilled hole through, and added a grommet in the box area of the frams for the wires. The lights stick out +/- 1/2" but they have a grommet on the backside that absorbs shock if they're hit (I've been loading stuff in and out of the back of mine and never hit the lights once)

Oh and BTW lights on back work great at night. I don't even have tinted windows and yet i use them all the time. Just habitI guess wince all my other family trucks have b/u lights.
The "skitime" lights work great too. Down on my tire and about 60 degrees sideways, while tilted down, so they don't blind onciming drivers on the trail:

And: Wal-Mart lights. 5 sets cost me under 100 bucks. Made my own interior switchboard and tucked everything away. NOt bad for 100bucks, plus the lights have 3-year warranty

Yeah i grabbed a pair of mirror covers from the yard....then i saw the euro ones.....im sadd

On the 'skitime' light mod, what model of running lights did you pick up? I'm interested in the dimension to know what I can get away with when looking at driving lights on-line.

OOOH good question. They're Wal-Mart lights, made by Platinum Burners, and the small ones (in the mirrors and underneath) are QH-88CD, cost $15.47 a pair. The large round ones (front and back bumpers) are QH-85CD, cost $19.94 a pair. Just looked them up in my car file. The cost includes the wiring harness and switches, brackets, everything needed.
Drone, I started on the driver's side. Was nervous about cutting into the mirror housing, spent several days measuring (especially the clearance of the back of the lamp, didn't want to interfere with mirror adjustment). Decided the only way to try was to actually do it, made a small hole about half the dimensions of the lamp, and then carefully shaved off more, and finally did the last 1/8" or so with a flat file (yes, it was a lot of filing). Then, I used a piece of cardboard, laid it inside the driver's mirror housing, poked it over the plastic stems inside the housing (you'll see what I mean), then traced the lamp opening onto the cardboard, from the outside. Then took out the cardboard template, cut out the opening I marked, flipped it over and put into the passenger side mirror housing. Marked onto the housing from the inside, pulled it out, and again, cut an undersized hole and filed from there. A lot of measure-mark-cut-test-cut-test fit-file-fit-file-fit-file-fit-mout

2.375" wide and 1.5" tall with 55w H3 bulbs. Nothing about the depth though, that figures. :)
You can get a 100W replacement bulb for them though, can't imagine how bright that would be.

I have the smaller ones and I was thinking about running them with HIDs in for additional lighting in a small housing so I can hide them in the grill...
$39.95 35w HID kit

A friend has that HID kit for his lows on his 08 Jetta and hasn't had any issues, he's nearly up to a year and they come with a year warranty. Regardless of if I keep these small lights from Wallyworld, I'll be transfering the H3 HID setup into whatever.
