Title: New buyer, useful information Please! :)
Post by: godchsr on September 07, 2009, 06:58:31 AM
I sold my Wrangler... need I say more. I loved it to death but looking to open a new chapter in my life.

It seems a bit trendy right now but I remember in 1998 doing some serious offroading in a Zuki Sidekick 4 door with a 5 spd transmission. We were in Juneau Alaska and running with a couple Yota trucks and Domestic big boys.

At the time being ignorant to the scene I remember feeling like an underdog but that Sidekick went everywhere the others did.

I won't lie there was a point where we slipped into a rut and got high centered but we got out no problem with a pull.

OK OK OK... So I'm rambling but I have experience with this stuff and am kind of excited at the possibility of buying a Zuki or the counterpart Tracker.

I would like some advice as to what I should be looking for. What do I want and what do I want to avoid.   :)

I thought about waiting for a 4door to come along??? Is the wheelbase actually longer or just an illusion?
Thank You all in advance (please don't flame me)

Welcome to the board. 4-dr is a longer wheelbase. Which one you choose is down to personal preference, SWB is more agile and less easily high centered. If you want to carry much gear then the LWB has a big advantage.
The 16v is a significantly more powerful engine and the auto is easier to gear for bigger tyres.
I don't think that anyone will flame you for wanting a Zuk  ;D

I just picked up my zuki about a month ago for 500.00. 180k and didnt start. Low and behold I drained the 8 quarts of oil out of it and i turned over!!!! ^^

Besides a head rebuild heading my way. Look out SaS swap. Oh and welcome!

Trendy?  Suzuki off-roading?

I'm sorry, I seem to have stepped out on the wrong planet.  I'll be on my way now.

I don't think you'll ever be flamed on these boards - I am pretty new myself but everyone is helpful and polite! Speaking of trendy... My 88 Zuk is so trendy that my wife won't even ride in it. She says it looks like a go-kart that got lost and can't find its way back to the track  >:(

Anyway... Welcome to Zukiworld. You should probably check out Ack's FAQ: http://acksfaq.com/ (http://acksfaq.com/)

LOL... Thanks for the replies.

I ended up getting a good deal from a friend.. unfortunately it isn't a zuki! Should I leave?      :'(

It's a Chevy Tracker, 2 dr, softtop, 5 spd with a recently refreshed motor.

It has no rust and drives beautifully. I pick it up Saturday since I couldn't take it with me today.

Welcome to our Zukin' world!

Yeah, in case you did not notice, a Tracker is just a rebadged Sidekick/Grand Vitara.

I own an built '88  Samurai , a beat-up '96 Tracker 2-door softtop and a nice '02 Tracker ZR2 4-door.  Nobody in our group gives me crap over my Tracker ownership.

Be sure to stop by Ack's FAQ (see link in signature, below) and play around with the search engine.  You'll find a lot of stuff there for your "TracKick".
