Post by: ben256 on September 22, 2009, 07:53:01 PM
so i bought a 95 sidekick, seeing as it was the only 4x4 i could afford. turns out its a pretty sweet car, only problem is with the soft top its hard do make a rack for my kayak. does anyone know of any ways to make a roof rack that will go on it without shelling out for a hard top. if not are there any affordable roof racks for, im pretty broke.
thanks

Well, to me the easy way would be to mount a 2" receiver to the front and rear centerlines, then fab an elongated T that would fit the receivers....maybe use some round or square stock/pipes to connect the two for added strength. That way it would be removable

Kind of like this but vertical:

Calmini makes a roof rack that will fit over the top of a soft top.  It does look like it interfears with the ability to pull the top off though, but that could probably be modified.

I have a set of the Suzuki marketed racks that were an option in the UK. The mounting points already exist, I can remove the top with the cage on.

I like how the Suzuki rack doesn't require you to drill into the existing body.  Looks pretty good.

So, I'll give you 50 pounds for it.  Shipped.  :D

Lol. Curious thing is that the rack is marked 'Made in USA' but I've only ever seen them on UK models.

Thanks.  I couldn't find any pic's either.  The front rack is one of those off of a car.  I can't think of the name right this minute.  The only problem is on the front rack.  Sometimes it will leak water inside on the passenger side when it's raining.  It's very sturdy and work great.   8)
