Title: sammi timing mark
Post by: shakydoug on September 30, 2009, 05:23:34 PM
Sammie is running, still funky.  currently, after getting engine at TDC with the finger,  the crank gear is pointing straight up to the mark.  the camshaft gear mark is pointing straight down. it cranks and runs decent.  The book says the cam gear should be pointing straight up,,Can i roll cam 180 and get the mark up top and re position the distributor to aim the rotor at #1 plug, will this work. or ?

Should work fine.  That is what we did on my Tracker when setting it back up.

To get the cam gear mark pointing straight up, just rotate the crank 1 more revolution.  Everytime the crank mark hits "12:00", the cam mark will be at either 6:00 or 12:00.....the crank to cam ratio is 2:1 (it takes 2 revolutions of the crank to turn the cam 1 revolution).
So depending on where the cam mark is at, determines where the rotor should be pointing.  If the cam mark is at 6:00, the rotor should be pointing at #1 tower.  If the cam mark is a 12:00, the rotor should be pointing at #4 tower.

that last reply to me, made no sense at all? the last time I told someone it was a two to one ratio they kind of frowned on it like it was tmi.
