Post by: Socalrunner on October 07, 2009, 06:27:35 PM
Took it for a pre inspection today and failed. Its running way to rich. It is 4 times the state requirement. How do i lean out the carb? Also how do i adjust the valves?

When was the last tune-up you have done on the Sammy?  A new set of plugs, wires and a cap/rotor combo could make a huge difference when it comes to meeting the local requirements.  Cleaning your carb also wouldn't be a bad idea.

Do you still have a Catalytic Converter on your Sammy?

Did you have a problem with CO emisions?  Of so Acks Faq has a PDF that covers this issue.

If you do a search over there (http://www.acksfaq.com) for carb there are quite a few tune-up articles.

If you are in Cali don't forget the State program assistance

I failed smog this morning:

HC - 280, limit is 220
CO - 1.76, limit is 1.0%

I went home, turned in the mixture screw until rough idle, out a little bit, still a little rough but not too bad.  I took it through again, making sure i got the catalytic converter real hot.

BAM
HC - 15!
co - 0.0 %

YEEHAW

turned out mixture screw again, slightly IN compared to what it originally was.
