I have a 1997 Sidekick with badly dented rocker panels. Is there any bolt on units that will cover this damage and give added protection at a later date. I find units for the older models but nothing for the 1997. My doors work fine, I would just like to cover the damage.

You can use the same hardware from any 4 door Sidekick as the body style did not change from 92-98 (Excluding the sport). I am not sure about bolt on replacements that are available.
On my 2 door I removed the plastic trim and pulled the dents out with a slide hammer. Then put the plastic trim back on as close as possible. I did have to put a machine screw in the back so it would stop clipping the door when it was opening but it looks close to stock. Then i picked up a set of rocker guards.

Thank you so much for sharing that site on how to fix my dented rocker panels. I am going to do what he did. I will try to track it all and take pictures and post the results.

It's a fun way to do it if you can weld. I would recommend using 2x6 instead of 2x4 tubing though, if doing it again from scratch. That way you can run it a little more inboard and have a bit more of an edge/lip on the rocker to stand on and keep rocks away from the door. Depends on what sort of look your going for though.
