Title: ProTop Removable Hard Top
Post by: beercheck on October 13, 2009, 01:53:48 PM
Anybody got one for the 99-03 trucks?

I have a line on one (unlined, never installed), but it has fixed side windows.  Because of my dog, I need to have side windows that open.

What I'm wondering is if converting the windows to open is reasonably doable.  If they're glued/bonded in, that's going to make things tough.  If they're bolted in, I could probably come up with some hardware to have them pop open.

Also.... if you've got one, how do you like it in general?

I've got one of them.  I'm not sure what the fixed side windows models looks like on the inside, but I bet you'd be ahead of the game to get one with the windows already installed.  The windows are bolted in but you'll need a bunch of little parts to do it right.  If you give it a try I'd be curious to see how it turns out.

I've had it for 7 years and now it is starting to leak like crazy - time for new seals.  It's quieter than the soft top but it creaks a bit.   I only use it in the winter time though I may start leaving it on all year (the rear part) since I don't daily drive the tracker any more and rarely take the entire soft top off.

I am looking for a hart top for my 2000, if you pass on this one with no side windows, could you please send me the info?

My soft top is really starting to take a beating and the plastic that it connects in to has started to crack due to the Florida heat.

Thanks.

Well, the guy selling the never-installed ProTop looked again, and it turns out the side windows do in fact pop open after all.

So, he's asking $900 (reasonably local, so no shipping).

Last chance for someone to save me a boatload of money by telling me you hate your ProTop.

I'm sick of the soft top and am amazed that more items aren't on the market as far as hard tops go.

Anyone in GA or FL area, let me know if you have one you want to let go of.

I agree with you 100% on that one.  WHAT THE HELL????  Only option is just under $1000?????????

Secondly, I am looking EVERYWHERE for the plastic trim pieces that go around the soft top area and each of them are around $100 each and there are 5 of them.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you got the top make sure the weather stripping is in good shape.  The main seal that is glued in place needs to be squishy all the way around - it tends to flatten and take a set after a while.  You can replace it with some generic 3M stuff if need be.

I passed on it for the 900, but he's moved down a little from there, so I might be back in the game.

Meanwhile, here's one on ebay:

Even at $600 even for a BRAND NEW top is a rip off.  I'm thinking about fabbing my own fiberglass top, it can't be that hard to make.

i have to agree that these tops are total rip offs pricewise.  i was quote 1600 canadian for one... then found a junkyard one that leaks for 200.  looks good but leaks more than my old soft top.
