Title: Grand Vitara rearend/rear axle whine
Post by: phunon on October 15, 2009, 07:27:45 PM
My 02 GV, 4x4, has a very noticeable whine in the rear.  Sounds like left rear.  Tires OK.
What do you think?

Hi pitched whine or lower pitched growl? Does the noise change if you are driving left vs. right vs. going straight? Jack vehicle up and see if the wheel/tire can be wiggled. If it is loose, this may suggest a rear wheel bearing is going out.

If it goes away when you let off the gas, your diff might be set up wrong as well.

Yes, sound seems to go away when I let off gas.  Same sound straight or turning.
