Hi, I'm going to get a 89 sidekick for my first car, and would like to know what to expect as far as problems. The engine the 1300cc, its in good shape, no body damage or rust or anything major. Id also like to know what parts i should get first. Maybe in the future id like to change the tires/ rims, do i have to cut anything under the fender? also what are good sites to get info. and parts for the sidekick, thanks
-
oh yea and its the one with the soft top, so i plan on making a custom roll cage too ;)

Welcome aboard ;D
If you have High mileage and don't know if the Timing belt as been change. Its probly a good Idea to change it and the water pump. Outside of that you should be good as gold ;D
And this is the best site for any Info you could ever need ;D

anywho, my dad is a mechanic so he will teach me all the stuff about when i need to change stuff, but thanks for the info. Any websites or store in CA that sell sidekick stuff? or anybody have pics of their rigs so i can get a truck that will inspire my truck, lol

Most of the companies that make stuff for kicks are out west
Here's some pics of my rig: http://www.eye-irritant.com/thegallery/index.php?album=Tracker+Shiz&sortby=name&order=asc

oooh im so lucky where are they and what are their names?
-
Calmini's in Bakersfield, IIRC (http://www.puresuzuki.com/)
Rocky Road is somewhere out west I think (http://www.rocky-road.com/)
There're a few others that I can't think of right now, I'm sure someone will fill ya in on them, though.

Welcome swiss to the bbs :)
First, please fill out your profile to tell us where you live in CA. There are several of us who, along with you pay too much for everything here in the "Golden" State.
Regarding CA Zuk vendors, I belive there are only two: Petroworks is in Fallbrook and Calmini in Bakersfield. But don't overlook the other vendors who sponsor this site. I have ordered parts from most of them over the phone and with modern shipping seem to all arrive in about the same amount of time. :D
What to buy for your rig? Take your time at first and look at the many examples of Sidekicks here at Zukiworld.

Rocky-Road is in Heber, Utah. I've been there a few times... very nice guys.
Welcome to the club!

Welcome aboard. The 1300 engine isn't very common in the Kicks, you might find it a little underpowered although the gearing in the axles is lower to compensate. You can fit a 1.6L from the later Kicks and with your gearing you could fit 30 or 31" tyres without too much loss of performance. A lift of some sort, either body or suspension, would be needed and a little trimming required. Your best bet is to run back through the old threads on this BBS, you will find a lot of discussions about lifts, tyre sizes and no end of other mods.

Swiss,
Welcome to Zukiworld. You can find out almost any thing you need to know about modifying of fixing stuff on you Kick here on the BBS. Others have already mentioned the good vendors. If your looking for new or used stock replacement parts give Hawk Strictly Suzuki a call at 1-888-SAMURAI. They are a great bunch of guys with cheep prices and quick shipping.
Here is a pick of my 89.
L8r,
Zig

Hey! Welcome!
My list of recommended upgrades, in no particular order:
Change all your fluids and filters (get a nice k&n air filter)
Alternator, belts
Plugs, ignition coil
Performance air intake
New header
Bigger exhaust
Suspension lift
Body lift
New tires
heh, just Personal Message me if you still have some money left over from this list or if you want a more complete opinion list including 'ricer' stuff like interior or asethetics.

The engine the 1300cc, its in good shape,
you have got the golden kick. the 1300cc is a vary rare model with the lowest gears Suzuki ever gave from the factory. if you swaped in a 1600cc engine then you would be ready for some 31's and be back to stock, well kinda. welcome aboard!

I have a question, if I want to put the 1.6L engine in my sidekick, will I need the tranny of the 1.6 engine? or is is a drop-in with minor mods such as a new motor mount?
The 1.6L is a 1600cc right?
-
oh yea and heres a pic of the engine, seems good except I think theres a leak in the transfer case and the battery is dead.

Yep, that's a 1.6L motor, as far as I know
all the 1.3L Kicks were Carb motors
-
woohoo! I got it already and I just installed a air filter, sounds nice!
Should I paint the rims black?
