Title: water in oil...white smoke HELP ASAP
Post by: jasonlemon on October 25, 2009, 08:27:57 AM
I swapped my 1.3L for a 1.6 8v in my sammy. I used the carb, intake, and exhaust manifold off the 1.3. Started up perfect. Drove it down the road and lots of white smoke. when i got back it was over flowing oil and water out of the dip stick tube. did i use parts that don't interchange? Did i put the intake gasket on wrong? This has been a year and I am SUPER exited to get it going so please help ASAP! I know maybe head gasket... cracked head...etc. Anything simple? I might just put the 1.3L head on it if I don't get it soon.

its not a hard or exspensive fix tho,

looks like there is something internaly wrong with the motor. the 1.3 intake and exhaust should bolt up to a 1.6 8v just fine.

My dad thinks i might have put the intake gasket on wrong. Is there only 1 way to put it on? Last... Anyone have a picture of the intake side of the engine so I can make sure that the hoses are in the right places...

im assuming the engine  was running before you did the swap  and not left set  over the winter and thus froze  and cracked a water passage
did you have the head checked before you  put it on ?
when you tourqed the head down , did you follow the  sugested patern ?
with that much water  your dumping  coolent strait to a oil passage and to the cylinders .
 drain the  engine completely .
pull the head off  and look at the gasket  you will be able to tell where the leak is crossing over at .
take the head down to a mechine shop and have them check it  to make shur its not warpped .

now someone else here with more knowlage on suzuki engines then I do  should be able to tell you  also about the head bolts . im not sure if suzuki does this or not . but i know chevy  on   a couple of their engines , have head bolts that  screw right into  coolent  passages . if you dont put on a sealing compund on those bolts , coolent will pump  right up into the  valve covers  and down into the  oil pan  .
this will also act like a blow head gasket becouse the coolent  leack around the valves into the  cylinders

sounds to me like you have  1 of4  things  happening or a combination of all 4
1)  cracked  coolent passage 3
2) warped head and thus a baddly blow head gasket
3)  the engine has a head bolt that goes into a coolent passage  and is not sealed . thus is leaking coolent  up onto the cam  down into the crank case  and  through the valve seals into the  cylinders
4) intake gasket   gasket leaking coolent into the intake .
i wouldnt think that would be the case though as  with that much water  the engine should have  locked up

Has anyone put a 1.3 carb on a 1.6? I just went to buy a new gasket and they are quite a bit different. Not sure which one I should use...

The 1.3 intake will bolt up to a 1.6L 8 valve engine.

You will use the standard intake gasket for a 1.3L Samurai.  Just give you local auto parts store a call and they should either have one in stock or be able to order one next day.

sweet thanks. I put a 1.6L gasket on. that is probably why it was leaking....

Put the $3.99 1.3L gasket on and that fixed it! runs great now.
