Title: Lost in the Piney's Fall/Winter tour?
Post by: bentparts on November 15, 2009, 05:25:40 AM
Any of you easterners up for a fall/winter Piney's run? Let's get a group together!

Oh geez.....I'm pretty broke and so is the Tracker...   ;D    Definitely NEXT winter!  haha....but I don't think I can make it this year.

I'm trying to fix up my truck, and then fix up the tracker....and tow the tracker around to wheeling events.

I'm in, as mentioned.
Couple of others from the Zu board as well that live by Wharton said they'd like to as well.

I'm going to have to check out this " Zu " board. Seems that's where all the east coast guys are at. Ok, a group is forming, lets try and get a date together.

Oh, there is a seporate listing for a December Piney run.  Cool.  I'm planning on some sand wheeling the weekend of 12th-13th.  Not possitive on which day yet.  I've been trying to get my neighbor to bring his pathfinder out into the woods and he's game for that weekend.  How does that sound to you guys.

Also, I know you guys went to Warton last, but are you game for wheeling in Forked River?  The trail entrance is right next to the exit ramp off of the parkway (at least it's off the southbound exit)  The trails there have quite a few nastier hill climbs, but there is enough tame stuff for a stocker to have a good time.

I've been talking to bentparts about getting out; I am one part short of finishing my yj's, so next week might work for me.

Are you talking off exit 67? Haven't been there for 20 years! Is it legal?

I'm game for new ground, but like ecoast said, is it legal?

I've never had any issues there and tons of people go there w/ ATV's and trucks still.  The only time the Law patrols the place is labor ady and memorial day weekend, because the place used to turn into a roudy mob scene and got kinda dangerous.  A random December weekend shouldn't be an issue.

The entrance is right near the off ramp for exit 74.  Ther is a Shell station near there that would make a good meeting point.  Its at:

Lacy Shell - 930 Lacey Rd, Forked River, NJ

Let me know what you guys think.  Also, what day and time would you want to meet at?

Opinions?  If you guys would prefer Warton that's fine too, but Forked does offer some much more interesting terrain than Warton.

I'll be flat towing down to go; is there somewhere's to leave my tow rig?

Yeah, we've parked tow rigs at the gas station before without issue.  Can you drive your samurai like .5 miles on the street to the trail head or is it not registered/insured?

I'm cool with Forked river. You'll just have to clue me in on where to meet and when. Is that off the GSP? I'll be driving down in my rig, no need to tow the "go anywhere " tracker. ( Unless I break it!)

I took the address off google.  if you put it in the GPS, you should be able to find it.  The trailhead isn't too hard to find, but for everyone who's never been to Forked, its probably best to meet at the gas station.  Like most South Jersey trails, its easy to get lost once you're in the woods as well.

What day works best for everyone?  I'd really prefer Sunday since Santa is coming over on Saturday and I'd like to see my daughter's reaction (The fire dept in my town dresses up as santa and drives around on the fire truck delivering presents.  It sounds pretty cool!)

If you are down for going, shoot me a PM with your cell phone number so we have a way of reaching people when we meet up.  I'd like to meet up at the gas station around 7:30-8AM but I'm open to suggestions.

I'm cool with sunday, but 8 am? man that's early for a Sunday morning. If my wife's gonna come with, might have to be 9am. so where is this "gas station " your talking about? And once again, is this off the Garden State Pukeway? Also, would like to have the address for my GPS, with zip if possible. Mike.

OK, we can do 9AM instead.  This place is right off exit 74 on the parkway.  once you get off the exit, make a right onto Lacey Road and the Shell is less than a mile on the left.  Here's the address:

Lacy Shell - 930 Lacey Rd, Forked River, NJ 08731

Allright, cool. I'm in. Is it just the three of us? No matter, it sounds good.

I've asked a couple of my local wheeling buddies if they are game but no response yet.  I'll be bringing my neighbor with his stock Nissan Pathfinder.  I've been trying to get him to buy a Samurai or tracker.

I guess if your neighbor can wheel there with a stock pathfinder, it must be safe, LOL! Either that or your trying to get him pissed off!

Like any wheeling in NJ, its all sand.  You need to get pretty stupid to break stuff, unless you roll on a hill climb.

Sounds like I may have 2 sheeps (jeeps) with me as well.

Looking forward to it, as long as the " heavy rain" that's supposed to come tomorrow doesn't turn it into a "bring your rubber dingy" run!

If Forked is reduced to a lake, there is another place just 10 minutes North of there that is just as nice and not as wet.  It also doesn't have as many mistery puddle sink holes.  I'm bringing a buddy that is knowledgable when it comes to the trails (XJ on 33's) in the area and might also have a friend that lives in Forked River along for the ride.

It's a shame.  The guy who lives in forked has a sweet Willys CJ on 33's with a half cab hard top, but his 60+ year old clutch finally gave up the ghost recently.

I'm trying to make it...my rig has been apart for three weeks; I'm waiting on ONE YJ spring...

It's a LONG story, but I picked up everything from another board member when I was |removethispart|@ URE for the fall Zu.
Got home, looked at all of it and one spring was incorrect  ;)

He say he shipped the last one 11/27   - Parcel Post !!!   (must have saved 3 bucks >:( )
I hate USPS PP !!!

UPS from VA would have been three days...oh well. I really was only 2/3 dollars difference, and UPs covers you too $100 incl.
So as soon as it gets here, I'm rolling again.

I still have those tires for you and was wanting to meet you guys. (including bentparts)

There is a place in Rahway called All American Auto Salvage.  They specialize in Jeep parts and would have that spring.  You'd be best off buying a matching pair.  would probably only be about $50-75.

Thanks for that; I'll call today.
Who knows, maybe the guy told me he shipped, but did not. He is a respected board member, so my finger's are crossed he did the right thing.

OK, talkingtomy friend in the area, there is no way we're getting into Forked without 38+ inch tires and 12" lifts.  Its all a lake, especially the entrance.

No worries though!  We can go to Lakhurst.  It's alot dryer and the entrance to the place is OK for stock vehicles.

You'll want to take the parkway to exit 88 and take 70 West.  Shortly after you go under Rt.9, you will see a Wawa on the Left.  That is where we'll meet at 9AM.  For the GPS, the address is:

WaWa
94 Route 70
Toms River, NJ 08755

I knew after all that rain we may have some issues, hell I wet vac'ed about 60 gallons of rain out of my basement! So it's gonna be another BYOB ride,  ( bring your own boat.) Lakehurst sounds good, I've been by that way many times but never wheeled out there. Close to Maguire AFB isn't it? At the Temps were seeing today, we may even see some frozen ice holes, always good for the wheels and bearings LOL! Hope you can make it ecoast, look forward to meeting you guys too.

Fellas-

Well Mr. Postman came and went- still no sight of my spring !
I'm trying to call the guy today, but I did find a set of 4 in Beacon NY if I have to (about an hour for me)

So, it don't look good for me right now...unless it comes tomorrow, in which case I'll call Truckasaurus.

I'm bummed, but it's not the last time you'll be going (I hope)

I hate parcel post... for two dollars more UPS ground would have had it over a week ago   >:(

Sorry to hear that man.  Let us know if anything changes.  Wrenching in this weather must be fun.  I hope you've got a heated place to work.

Bummer for sure.

The guy was an admin at the time of purchase, so all was good...when I picked up all the stuff at the event (it was brought to me by someone I trust), it was Saturday night and dark,so I threw it all in the truck...had I looked, I would have seen one spring was incorrect, and would have stopped by the guy on my way home to make it right.
I'm sure it will show up!

I'll be there in January; after the holidays.

Have a great time; post pics!
