hehe. :)
What year is the vehicle? Does your speedo just squeek or does the needle bounce a bit as well?

Driving backwards might relieve the stress on your cable

Its a 95 4door and yes the needle does bounce. If it matters a have 30's on it as well, but it also does it with the stock size tire.

It sounds like a problem with the Speedo cable. That would be the first thing I look at, possibly oiling it up or just replacing it. Second is to actually swap out the speedo on the cluster. The 96-98 ones seem to have a problem with the spring going bad then the needle breaking off for the speedo. Haven't seen it as much of an issue on the older clusters.

I don't know about on these cars, but in general a speedo cable is the same always and try some white lithium grease. that is what i did for one of my cars, and it worked great. I learned this on power block tv or something like that.

In my 95 4-door, it wouldn't squeak, but it would hang up between 50 and 60. I would just thump the dash, and it would correct itself.

LMAO
The next time i see some one pounding on the dash like donkey kong I now know what the issue is.....

I have a 1995 Sidekick JX and I have had a rattling needle for about a year now. Most of the time it is when I'm going approx. 25-35 mph. I'm glad someone asked this question, now I will how to fix it. Either lube it or replace it.
Thanks Guys.

I had to go to the speedometer shop when I got my 95 tracker to get it working. all they did was took the tip of the cable off and slipped the inner cable out, dipped it in heavy grease ( looked like red bearing grease) and put it back together. I also had they check the spedo. head and he said it was good. it is a little jumpy at 20 -30 MPH, but it works good.

if im not mistaken i remember reading that it was difficult to get to the back of the speedo....is this true?
-
no, there is about 4 screws on the face plate ring of the guage cluster. after you take the fast plate off, the cluster pops right off.

thank you. im glad now
