Title: Compression check: good numbers?
Post by: nighthawk801 on July 27, 2004, 04:07:51 AM
Did a compression check on both of my Sidekicks recently and was a little surprised to get 145-150 PSI on all 8 cylinders (a couple were down close to 135 or so).  I figured these were pretty good numbers, especially considering it's not a terribly high compression engine and that they have 180,000 and 250,000 miles  :D

What kind of numbers does everyone else get on the 8V?

My '90 is showing:

#1 -- 170
#2 -- 160
#3 -- 165
#4 --  60      DOH!!!

I just read the number out of my service manual the other day and thought they were supposed to be around 180 and 190 with no more than 11% or 14% difference in any two cylinders.  I can check for the exact numbers later if you'd like (and no one else provides the info).

All in all, I'd say your two are in pretty good shape.
