Title: Body Lift... problem?
Post by: Zubie on November 23, 2009, 07:42:02 PM: Picked up the 2" body lift from Rocky Road while looking around the Tracker I found a bit of cancer right above the frame mount by the rear tire.

I know installing the body lift will probably not be the smartest idea I've had with it looking like that, so what are my options as far as repairing it and in case of stupidity, what problems am I looking at if I did install the kit and had the repairs done shortly after since I have little to no experience with welding and body work

Post by: BARLEY on November 23, 2009, 08:10:28 PM: Doomed...I'm just kidding I'm sure someone will help you out shortly...Personally I'd get someone to weld a plate above and below at a 90 degree with a hole in it for the mounting screw...

gauge should work good, then spray with rust convertor, available
at Wal-mart in the auto body section, let that cure and spray after
with several good thick coats of undercoating

That should stop it

Post by: zukimoo on November 24, 2009, 05:27:13 PM: like above...sand blast, cut out thin stuff and weld on some metal. You don't need to go too heavy as long as you weld it in totally. Clean it up and then spray it with some good rust paint or neutralizer.

of rust convertor inside to stop that rust

Fortunately it is now an Arizona vehicle so the rust growth should be at a minimum.

From what I can see this spot and the cross member at the front or I should say the cross member that should be at the front of the gas tank is the only rust that is this bad. 1 spot on the passenger fender where it looks like the previous owner clipped a rock at the bottom is a bit banged up but that just gives me another reason to trim the fenders and the rest is surface rust

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GET ALL THE RUSTED BOLTS LOOSE TO INSTALL THE LIFT!

GET THE EXTRA LARGE CAN OF RUST PENATRATE AND START EARLY!

Post by: Zubie on November 25, 2009, 11:12:42 PM: Started hitting the frame/body ones a week ago strangle enough they don't look to bad.
Started doing some of the work today and now I'm dealing with the bumper cover bolts snapping (haven't decided if I'm worried about those) and 2 screws on each headlight are pretty frozen so I'm letting everything up there soak a bit and will take a look and saturate the back end tomorrow.
