Okay I have already checked the obvious spark plug, ignition wires, fuel but in my 1990 sidekick that has been sitting for probably 2 years and not started in about 6 months I kind of need someones direction am I missing something? I have to admit I am not an auto mech. but not afraid of working on my own stuff but kinda need some guidance.

1) do you have visible spark , fuel and such ?
2) check and make sure you Cam is turning when you crank the engine . . Just take the oil cap off and look down inside .
You may have thrown the timing belt .
3) check and clean your grounds . On on the firewall . My 89 also had one on each finder and another back behind the drivers taillight .
Make sure they are all clean and grounding well

Maybe the caps in the computer popped and corroded the traces on the board

does it even try to turn over or is the starter not kicking in?

No it turns over just won't start.. I am beginning that it might have something to do with the fuel injectors but have to wait until the weekend to figure out..
