Title: Grand Vitara Time Display console stays on
Post by: dmurpheyjones on December 13, 2009, 06:05:29 PM
My husband changed out my radio for an after market one and wired it in.  Now for some reason my console that gives me the time, temp and mpg stays on all the time.  Key is out of ignition and still stays lit up.  What did he do wrong?   He says it is not the same system but evidently he did something.  Any ideas, or will I have a dead battery? :'(

He probably reversed the blinker fluid return line, resulting in a flux variance to the theta modulator.  Happens all the time.

In other words, I haven't got a clue.

I'm not sure there are many/any aftermarket stereos that will work with the steering wheel mounted controls directly. Usually, one has to buy an interface module to get that to work. There probably wasn't anything done wrong there, you just lost the function because it is not supported by the aftermarket stereo.

As for the always on console, did it used to come on when the door was opened? Maybe a wire got pulled or cut and the GV things that a door is open?

Good luck, Eric
