Title: Kumho Road Venture A/T
Post by: 99Trackerconv on July 26, 2004, 05:24:25 AM
Anyone hear anything about them?

The tire store by me said they buy and sell a ton of them, so they could sell them pretty cheap.

$70ea.  installed and balenced

Not going on an off-road adventure but I'm pretty sure the tires I got on now are gonna by fun in the snow come wintertime.

There gonna be 235/75-15 on my stock rims.

I don't have them, but they're what I thought I would buy if I were buying right now.  I saw them on Tirerack and the numbers and the warranty on them looked great.

I was also looking at the 235s.

If you get them please post your thoughts.

bringing this back from the dead cause... it looks like Kumho now offers two versions of the "Road Venture AT", the original 825 and the new KL-78.

I don't know if they're phasing out the first one, but both are available thru TireRack.  they're both rated for the same conditions (70% onroad 30% offroad) so I'm confused as to what's the differences between them.  The KL-78 has a chunkier design but might actually be quieter on the road.  if the datasheets on www.kumhotireusa.com are correct, it might be a couple lbs lighter.

any thoughts on the two models?  I'm looking to upgrade to 235-70-16 on my XL7.

The MT's look more aggressive I wonder if they might be better

i think you will get what you pay for in tires.  those tires look like they belong on a car, not an off road vehicle...

i had an old set of kumho mt's that looked almost like the at's 2nd pic, when comparing them to my cooper stt's they didn't do anything but spin in mud and soft dirt in comparison.  the kumho mt's look like a decent tire though..

IMO,

The KL-78, looks like a very good snow tire, decent on ice, will clog in mud, might be a bit noisy

The 825, looks like a rain tire, might be ok in snow, good on ice, will spin in a mud puddle, should be quiet.

as stated above Kumho markets these for 70% road-highway use only 30% offroad.  for a true offroad tire you'd be looking for something else... for occasional offroad use, either of these would be a huge improvement over the stock Bridgestone Dueler HT's on the XL7.

if anyone else is in the market for tires there is a $40 rebate (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/specialevents/kumho_xpress.jsp) on these and several other Kumho models thru Aug. 12

I think I am going with the AT KL-78, they are a newer and more appealing design and supposedly the tread blocks are tuned to cut down on road noise.
