Title: '96 Sidekick not starting
Post by: marta on January 06, 2010, 01:32:22 PM
My daughter is not having a good few days with her Sidekick!  She got stuck driving away from the curb yesterday and tore off the mirror (that's when I noticed the front axle wasn't doing anything).  This morning it would not start.  It sounded like a weak battery but we had the battery tested and it came back good.  We reinstalled it and cleaned the terminals, still no go.  I tried jump starting it with my 12v Toyota Land Cruiser diesel, still the same noises like a weak battery.

Where to start on this?  If it were my Land Cruiser I'd just change out the starter contacts and 99% of the time that would fix it.  I'm just not familiar with the Suzuki.

If jump starting still makes it turn over slow, like a weak battery, then you know the problem is likely the connection between the battery cables and the starter (positive cable) and/or ground (negative cable).  Or it could be the starter itself.

It ended up being bad brushes in the starter.

Good to hear it's back on the road!
