Title: Power Steering Issue

At Idle I can turn the wheel all the way left and all the way right with no hiccups .....
WHile driving the wheel will turn then feel really stiff......then loosen again.....happens mostly while applying gas

whats going on here....CHECKLIST
FLuid level-Good
FLuid Quality-Changed every 50000km
Leaks-none
Belt---some signs of wear but no cracks
?????????????

try revving up the engine and turning your wheels at a stand still.

perhaps your pump is failing at higher rpms.


OR your rack is warn out and get stiff under load (driving)

There is an intermediate shaft that joins the Rack to the steering column. It contains two small u-joints. Remove this shaft from vehicle and check to see if joints move freely in all directions. The one on my 01 seized and caused a problem such as you are having.

I sprayed mine with oil to see if it got easier to turn the wheel first. Once it was lubed up I could clearly tell it was the intermediate shaft.
