87 ZUK, stock except 32/36 weber, 2" exhaust. My compression is average 135# +/- 5#. I am ready for my next step. Cam/header. Considering Thorley header and ISKY cam

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I will also install new rockers and timing belt kit.

I don't have easy access to my cam spec sheets, but what are they
saying this cam will do? RPM range? torque? or ??? How does it compare
to the stock specs?

To me you should get a grind done to suit your setup and requirements rather than just buying an off the shelf generic solution that may not be optimal for you. I'm about to get a cam grind done for a 1.6 8v and I'm going for more lift but less duration than that. Hopefully I will talk to the cam guy tomorrow. I'm aiming for something around the .390 lift and between 210 and 225 duration at .050". Will have to see what profiles he has.

Thats a fair bit of lift, are you running bigger valves?

No, I'm going from what Zaggy trialled and what suprf1y (he does cams) recommended on TeamSwift. They both seem to be of similar opinion. At least 210 duration and up to mid 220's and close to .400 lift measured at .050".

Remember Zaggy was putting an engine in an airplane, where the throttle and RPM
were high and didn't need cruising RPM speeds, at like 3000 RPM you might not
be a happy driver, like the difference between a drit bike engine and a car engine,
the one might produce lots of HP but the torque (twisting force) that moves you
is not there and the drivability suffers

Stock duration on the 1.3 8V cams is 192 with .330" lift. 1.6 cams are 202 duration, and .356" lift.
You don't want to drop any in the duration. Its already a little too low. Keep lift at, or below .400", and you will be fine. A reground cam is fine for your application. Don't waste money on having one welded. Its costly, and unnecessary. Several
More lift is a gain but lots of lift can be tough on the valve train (found out the hard way)
I would not exceed .395"
In the DIY build which was an engine that went in to a Kick, Zag used the following specs - Custom Cam 208 intake/211 exhaust duration- .380 intake/.385 exhaust lift
He was originally going to use 226 duration with .395 " lift in the engine for the Kick which was what he was also originally going to put in the plane engine but ended up using a 228 duration with .415" lift for the plane which he did say he thought was too much for car.
suprf1y just recently made this recommendation to me-
"Looking at my profiles, I would suggest either the 216/375, or 226/395.
Get in as much lift as possible, to around .400" and go as high as mid 220's duration, but not less than 210 at .050"

Thanks for the input, my motor has 45000 original miles, do not want to tear it down to far. This will be my daily driver. I just want to go with the biggest cam that makes sense. From the replies, looks like a grind of 226/395 |removethispart|@ .050" is about right. Any recommendations for a cam supplier?

Zaggy and Wildgoody are talking about a 1.6 which can take a little more duration.

Ohh ya, I forgot we were talking about a 1.3L engine too ::)
Then again the specs for my cam were for a 2.0L Ford Pinto
engine, there were no grinds for the Suzuki engine listed at the time,
the guy at the shop looked at the cam, said the closest match was
the Pinto cam and put that grind on it, was a good choice, I have
never been disappointed with my choice
