Title: should i buy this wrecked sidekick?
Post by: sthomp on July 23, 2004, 02:35:59 AM
i found a 90 model 2 dr sidekick here locally that took a hard front hit on the frame rail...enough to bend it beyond easy repair.  anyway, it is a 4x4 1.6 8v w/ 100k on it, in pretty good condition other than the front end, the car is still somewhat driveable and motor seems to run great.  i wanna put the motor in my 87 sammy, but keep hearing that i'm wasting my time with the 8v and need to find a 16v, which seem pretty hard to find.  anyway, i can get this sidekick for $200 so should i jump on it or wait for a 16v.  are there any other parts i can adapt to my sammy besides the motor?  thanks for any help.

Sounds like a good deal to me.  You could make back your money with the spare parts on ebay, too.

Real Red Sammi is turning 35's with his 8V out of a sidekick.  He seems to be more than satisfied with his power.  I would go ahead with it man, a 16V would cost alot more $$ and if you have headers, etc. on your 1.3 now, you couldn't bolt them up to a 16V.  On a side note, is the Kick a 5spd.  If so, where are you located??

I purchased an 89 Sidekick with more miles and $300.  It was a rust bucket.  I put the 1.6/8V in my 88.5 tin top and love it.  A 16V would be nice, however you'll like the 8V.

thanks for the quick responses, i guess i'll go ahead and get it.  it is a 5sp manual, 4wd, and i am in north GA.  it really seems like it is in great condition inside and out if it didnt have the front end torn off.  i am assuming this tranny will not work in my sammy because it looks like everyone goes the adapter plate to sammy tranny route.  any other parts i should look at swapping off it?

Is it a convertible? If so I'd like to get the little plastic tensioning loops that are above the doors connected to the pivot points of the front hardware. Oh if the headlights are in good shape I'd like to get those as well ;)

You need to have the rear kick axle housing choped and fabbed into a Hybrid to get the rear 5.13:1 to work in your Sammy.  Some people are doing this axle housing modification on their own now but Trail Tough still seems to be the leader.

Or buy 2 fronts.

Unfortunatly, Zuki One, I am asking on the behalf of real red wagon, who wants them for his AT tracker.  My Sammi has gears, but i'm badly in need of a 1.6.  Sthomp, let me know when we can get those 3rd members.
