i have noticed for a while now, that all vitaras have factory front and rear diff breathers, and gearbox and transfer breathers.
although these breather hoses aren't the greatest, nor an ideal length, they do in fact exist, and from factory too i assume, as all vitaras i've had a look under have these. now these aren't modded vits, but vits that chicks drive, and or old people, etc etc.
now, on every sierra/sammy i've seen or worked on, did not have breather hoses fitted. only those pitiful 'breather' caps on top of the diffs.
now, i try to explain this to sierra drivers, that if suzuki built the sierra (solid front axle etc) for more hard core work, and off road duties, then why did they not fit these simple diff seal saving devices?
ok, i understand about the real older models, where no one really knew or cared as much, and seeing as vits started production in, i think 88, why did suzuki not fit breathers to post 88 sierras?
makes you think sometimes. was suzukis vitara destined for a life as we have ours? lifted, locked, and far from stock.
sorry if this isn't really related to much tech (as i know of other forums who dont like non tech threads in tech sections) so yeah.
cheers
Steve

I did a 2.5" suspension lift and that breather hose just didn't have enough slack to it. Had to put an extention on it.

The Dana 44's I'm putting in my Tracker have those caps, too, as well as the Land Cruiser axle that I have sitting around. When I get them mounted in, I'm going to run a long hose up to prevent contamination of the lube.

I have heard that the stock samurai one's don't leak but then again things do happen, mines 17 years old. I wonder if you could buy new ones?
