Hi, I'm looking into possibly getting a Samurai to do some offroading in. And I've found one I'm relatively interested in, but I have a few questions. I'm more of an ATVing guy, and I'm not quite as knowledgable in the offroad truck area.
So I'm looking at this (http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/cto/1552836443.html) Samurai (don't go snatching it on me now!!) and I'm most concerned about the 5.13 gearing. With that kind of gearing, is there any chance of this being street legal/capable?
If it is a pure bread rock crawler, how hard is it to swap out for some more multi-use gearing?
Thanks.

My 1987 tintop has the hybrid rear axle with 5.12 gearing, stock t-case, and 31" tires.
I am pulling about 4000 rpm at about 65 mph pn the freeway. No problems at all. Some people say it is too high of rpm and others claim they run them all day long at that rpm.... I had thoughts of changing gearing but the only other option for me with the hybrid rear axle is 4.62 gearing which I don't feel is enough difference to warrant the work of changing it out.
I will actually go ahead and do the t-case gears and gear this down more once I move away from CA and these higher speed roadways.
