Title: 95 automatic to manual swap
Post by: Landman on January 30, 2010, 11:26:24 AM
Help!  I swapped out my 95 auotmatic for a manual.  I did a complete engine, transmission and transfer case swap (from another 95).  That went fine.  I also swapped the ECU and the black box under the dash from the donor tracker.  It won't start!!!  I know their is a difference in the wiring harnesses a little.  Can I make it work with the Automatic harness or do i need to swap out that as well?  Do you think this is my problem?  Everything in the tracker works when you turn the key, but it won't even try to turn over.  I'm frustrated!!!  Good thing this is a project truck and not my daily driver.

You can use an auto ECU on a manual although they are mapped a little differently. I believe that the US M/T models have a clutch cut out switch, do you have that wired in?

When I removed the auto shifter it had the correct quick connect plug that mated with the cluch cut out switch.  I tried to use it with no success.  Their is no quick connect directly above the pedals that matches the clutch cut out switch.  I suppose I will have to switch out the entire wire harness to get the correct plugs in the correct places.  What a pain.  I sure hope that works.  If their are any more ideas before I do this tomorrow (1-31-2010), Please let me know.  Thanks for the response.

Ya, I think I would swap the harness before trying to rig the old system to work,
remember, just because a plug is the same as another, doesn't mean the wires
go to where they are needed

if it doesn't turn over wouldn't that mean a grounding issue or something?

Good News!  I swapped out the main wire harness from the donor Geo and it worked.  About 2 1/2 hours to install the new harness and reconnect everything.  Not as hard as I thought it would be.  The trick to easy install is to use electrical tape and wrap the entire portion of the harness that goes to the passanger side for easier pass through in the very small hole they give you between the air box and the fire wall.  Fired it up and it runs great.  Thanks all for the input. ???

Good deal, chasing electric gremlins sucks, and would of been more work than 2 hrs
