Title: 07 Grand Vitara thunk noise at 15-20 mph
Post by: gecko01 on February 01, 2010, 07:13:42 AM
Hello, new here, I have a 07 Suzuki Grand Vitara and at about 15-20 mph I hear a "thunk" in the front kinda under/near the brake pedal.  Anyone else experience this? It's been suggested on another forum that this is the ABS check.  I can't seem to find anyone else that hears it at 15-20mph.  I have had owners say they hear it 10-15 seconds after they start the engine.  It seems 09 and up has ABS that are a different design at the check happens after starting, and my year starts after moving, but I know that if I drive forward, then stop, the check won't happen, only after hitting 15-20 mph...

Also suggested that the noise is from :"pump that is used to check leakage from the fuel system, that pump/canister assembly is right below the left rear door of the vehicle. When the pump shuts off you ear a clunk, after that it is fine. As mentionned I ear that only when parked for a long period, I just start it and drive 100 or 200 feet, then "clunk"."

But unless the noise is traveling I don't hear it hear....know of anyother "pumps" / self tests that could make this...anyone else hear noise like this....Dealer replace ABS motor once and it went away for a few days...came back. Dealer said they don't hear it now, I do, they won't look at the vehicle because they don't hear it.

Does your GV have the hill descent control option?

Not to my knowledge.  It has 4WD and is the Luxury model, but never heard of having the hill descent option.  Unless it was standard for the 07 Grand Vitara 4WD Luxury with the V6, I don't believe it has it.  Sound can be subtle or a little louder seems like outside temperature can influence it.  So if dealer can't hear it, I guess they don't think they can find it.  I just wondered if there was some type of test they could run to make sure everything with "pumps" that might make the noise are running well.
