Title: 1994 geo tracker no start....help
Post by: joe dirt on February 01, 2010, 08:54:11 AM
also posted over a the harrie...

ok,..took the tracker for about a 2 hour drive round trip yesterday,...ran great no problems at all (1.6 8v 5spd)...got home parked it,..about 2 hours later the wife hopped in it to pick the kids up,..she made it about 1/2 mile before it just died...now it wont start...the starter turns the motor over super fast, almost sounds like its not turning the motor over at all...i took a look at the crank pulley to see for any "wobbleyness",..but all looks good (although i didnt pull any of the belts..)...then i tryed to run a "jumper" in the diagnostics to check for codes...well,..the CEL light stays on when key on and wont flash at all with the paper clip in...i tryed this numorous times last night...i even tryed to start it while paper clip was in...it would blink once, then once more and thats it...would that be a code 11??...anyways i cant seem to figure it out,..ill be running a compression test tonight when i get home....it spins over so fast that i would think it has no compression...

by the way its got 180k on the ticker,...nothing seems out of ordenarry..
any help would be apreiceated...especially on the ecm not flasshing codes or even a code 12 being normal...

Sounds like a timing belt.

Pull the dist. cap off & see if the rotor spins when you crank it.
My '93 cranked over super easy when its belt broke.  Probably because it left a valve open.

If it is the belt you're in luck, they're cheap and easy to replace.  Had mine back on the road in about 2 hours!
