It seems like the hinge has come loose or something to that extent. Is this common? The roads here in Michigan are brutal so i can see how they could shake loose, i'm just surprised they are.
Is this an easy fix or could it be something far worse? How would i find out?

This is a common problem in rust belt areas. The upper hinge rusts out of the a-pillar and can be an extensive repair.

i had the same problem i ground out the rust area opened it up abit with a grinder welded a 3x4 inch piece of sheet metal with 2 bolts weled from the back side just had the leave nuts loosened up close the door and then with the door in the closed postion tightened the nuts relatively easy fix.

Trouble is i don't see any rust at all. Actually i can't even find where it's loose at. I just know when i open the door it literally drops a little then opens. When i go to close it the striker doesn't line up with the door. And when half way open i can jiggle the door. but looking at the hinges and where the bolt onto the body i see no movement. could it be the bolts on the actual door are loose?
