So we got quite a bit of snow here. The truck had been in 4hi, and I put it in 2hi when I got to the main road. I reversed a bit after putting it in 2hi, and then went forward onto the main road. Had a funny sound coming from what sounded like the front drivers side wheel. Then a loud clunk! And then nothing else. Any ideas what this would be? It's a 94 Tracker LSi 2dr, fyi.

Probably a stuck hub unlocking... does it still pull in 4x4? Do you hear/feel any thing turning up front when unlocked in 2wd?

I haven't put it back in 4wd since it did it. It clunked once, and didn't make any more noise... It's not pulling in 2wd, so I guess it was unlocking, just in a violent manner.. lol. Is there something I should do to lube it up, maybe?

i hate to intrude but are you suspose to back up when you take them out of 4wd if so i didn't know this

I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere recently... maybe I'm dumb.

Ya, auto hubs unlock by reversing it 2wd

Thought so. Yeah, I did that, and it evidently didn't unlock. Then when I went forward, it made a funny sound, and then BOOM! and then it was fine... hope it didn't mess anything up in there... lol
