Hi -
New to the world of Samurai - fun stuff!. Just picked a a really clean '87 with a lot of goodies, but no sliders. I have looked at Calmini, Petroworks, and shrockworks.
Petroworks - doesn't run the full length.
Calmini - looks clean, but how strong?
Shrockworks - beefy, but 66lbs.
Opinions, please. Thanks!

I just bolted some angle iron on the side. Works great for me. :D

angle iron would definitely be the cheap/easy way. have you put any weight on your sliders? Just wondering if a slider really needs to be braced to the frame?
-
Oh yea, I've dropped it on all sorts of stuff. Never even budged. For proof check out the video:

I have 4 holes drilled through the body with some 3/16th on the back side to make sure that I have plenty of strength on the mounts to keep the bolts from pulling through the body. The front two go into the cab, the back two go just underneath it. There is room for a 5th bolt if you want to put it on there but I haven't found it necessary.
This does not allow for the use of an added bar to help keep the vehicle off of trees and the like, and I wouldn't recommend welding a bar onto this sort of configuration due to the extra leverage on the body. If you want the bar I would still use the angle but come off of your frame as well.

I'd say the the angle iron works?

Based on that video - I'd say so! Got sucked into the Calmini formed rock sliders - they say not to worry about durability. Probably should have gone with the angle iron. Anyone using the Calmini formed sliders? They are the ones that have the triangle bend.
-
anther for just angle iron mine is held on by 6 self tappers hasn't budged at all either hit some rock pretty hard too.
-
I have the Calmini sliders and like them a lot. I have had zero problems banging them on rocks from underneath. The only thing I would watch for is a hard hit from the side. I have a slight bend right in front of the rear tire from a very hard slam against a tree. If I did not have the slider on then my tub would be severely caved in there.

1/8 or 3/16" on the angle?
-
Calmini says 3/16.
