Title: HID headlights? can it be done to a samurai?
Post by: Bobthebiker on February 05, 2010, 04:12:10 AM
ok, this is PROBABLY a crazy idea, and most likely a lot of work,  but can you retrofit HID headlights onto a Samurai?

I've had them on several motorcycles i've owned, and just LOVE the increase in my line of sight down the road.  it literall jumps from like a football field to roughly half a mile down the road that I can see in pitch black.

is it possible to retrofit those same HID lights to the sammi?  assuming I can figure out some way to either install projector headlights, or a headlight bucket that will accept the HID bulb, and put the right reflectors in, personally I see no reason I couldnt do it.

Yes I plan to put an upgraded alternator in, and beef up some electrical stuff, even though HID lights use 50% less power.  its just a good idea to keep the charging system pumping out a healthy amount of power while its running.

Sweet!  is a wiring upgrade needed for that or no?     I'm assuming the stock headlights are sealed beam units, correct?

yes the stock headlights are sealrd beams   you have to get convertion light buckets     as for wiring  i order the lights i order i have to move the wires to different spots in the plug but the plug  plugs in just like the sealed beam so you could go back to stock when ever you want
one draw back is that you only have low beam but its all you need

yeah,  its not like I ever even really USE the high beams, AT ALL. I mean the samurai wont even outrun the lights really, so lows are PLENTY for my needs.    really 55 is all I'lll ever drive, at all.
