Title: jeep people
Post by: weaver on July 15, 2004, 08:52:29 AM
i dont really understand the jeep people ego and social attitude towards "shitzuki".   i think that i have more fun riding in my zuk then jeeps , i get better mpg, and  i paid less for my stock zuk in great condition than a broken down jeep frame from any wrecker.   i told some people about the mods im doing and they are saying ,,,,why waste your time just buy a jeep,ect....

just wondering if you all have similar experiences.

>:(                                                                     ;D

I don't get the whole "my brand (or model) is better than yours" attitude.

I've owned several brands, sizes, and styles of 4x4 and I've never had one I didn't like.  They all have pros and cons and each has a particular situation where it is the "best".

The same with motorcycles.

I don't care what you drive or ride.  I just care what I drive or ride.  And depending on what it is I want to do, I'll take the appropriate vehicle.

As far as "jeep people" go, Suzuki people do it too (and Ford people and Chevy people and Harley people and...).  In most cases, it is just a small percentage that does it but it happens.  We all want to belong to a group and bad mouthing another group makes some people feel better about themselves.

I sold my 98 TJ to get away from the "Jeep Thing"

I went into a shop and told the guy that I wanted to do a 2 inch lift and 31 inch tires.  He said, "you want at least a four inch lift and 33's or 35's."  I didn't buy a thing from him and I won't.

I thought about doing a window banner that says Oh but I do understand.

It might be funny!

advertisement does wonders for a product there are a lot of close minded people out there and even more that don't have a clue. once people open there eyes and look at the reputation of suzuki and quit compalaining about there over priced rigs they will realize that there more options than heep.

Aww come on guys...ya mean if some one was willing to give you a new Rubicon, ya wouldn't take it?

I agree with Jonald.  There have been some great 4x4s made over the years.  And if I had the money and space, I'd have a bunch of em.

I would dearly love to have my EB back...but for today's $ the sammy will have to do.

A-men, Jonald.... I've whitnessed (and maybe been a part of) several Jeep bashing sessions.  ;) The part I don't understand is when the Samurai guys start ripping on the Sidekick drivers. Is it the trickle down theory? I mean the Samurai driver just got snubbed by a Jeep/EB guy so they turn around and do that to a Sidekick driver? I don't get it...

YMMV -Eric

I would trade it in a heart beat for a 99 or 00 2-door Vitara and mod the hell out of it with any left over cash.  I have respect for Jeep, but I'm not a Jeep guy.  I want to be different from the pack.  And people take notice too, I think I influence other people to look at Suzuki.  I always get compliments on my ride all the time, and it's plain stock.

So true. I've seen about 2 or 3 modified Trackicks up here... The unique factor was part of what I was after when I bought a Tracker to modify ;D

Amen brother.

I don't have a problem with Jeeps, they are pretty capable vehicles. I just like razzing the Jeep guys because they get all worked up.  :P

One of the reasons I love my Tracker is because it is differant. There are only a few lifted trackers on the island that I know of (Mac, Biker, and Myself) And there are countless Jeeps

Everytime I drive through town I always see a bunch of people turning their heads to get a look at the truck.

It feels good to be differant.

There's a guy that I work with that mudds with us and has a Heep.  It came in on trade at the dealership we work at for the right $$ so he got it.  Sure he paid more money for a heavier, less capable truck that's more expensive to repair or modify, but that's what he got.  He likes it and has fun with it.  No hostility(some ridicule).  I rode in his Heep before I had my Sammi, and he's got the open invitation to ride in my Zuk since his Heep is sidelined and ready to recieve a 305.  I don't like the Jeep guys with the show n' shine rigs that look at my Zuk like cheap imitation.  I use mine man!!

And  >:(DoctorD >:( It sounds like you only have a Zuk because you couldn't afford a Heep.  And, you'd rather have a Heep and get rid of your Zuk.  That's less than cool.

Oh yeah and I would definetly wheel the crap out of a Rubicon if someone gave it to me, because no one else who has one does!!

I totally agree.  There are several people in my town that have Wranglers/Cherokees/Libertys/Xterras and never mud or take them off road, but they look at the badly camoed Sammy like it couldn't possibly hang withem.

Lawdog....you're right!  I got the zuk cause I sold my bronc to come up with a down payment so I could buy my house.  I wanted to build another 4x4.  This bother ya?  I'm not cool now?  I don't give a crap if ya think I don't deservse a zuk, because it wouldn't be my first choice.  I got it because the price was right, and they are a capable machine, that make great hunting rigs.
You know, I used to get the same kinda crap when I rode my Sporster.  The big twin guys would call my bike a girls bike, or a mini bike.  I knew I wanted a big twin, and finally got one....but ya know what?  I miss my sporty!

The point I was trying to make is, there are a hell of a lot of capable 4xs out there.  And, depending on what you want out of one, you will choose what is best for you.   Maybe a EB is best for me, maybe some one would like a nice liitle 87 sammy, so I could bankroll another EB.  Who now's?

On a different note.  The more folks we get driving Zuks, the less "different" you'll be for owning one.  It happened with Harley's, didn't it Jonald.

Ya know, after readin my last post, I believe I sounded a little harsh....that's not me!
I guess what I was thinkin didn't come out right.
There are many reasons that lead a person to make their decisions.  What led me to the samurai was, it was my dad's, he bought it for a toad for his motorhome.  About 4 years ago we went to central Oregon deer hunting.  I drove the little buggar around...and feel in love with it.  Sure it needed more suspension travel, and more power...but it was COOL!  I missed my EB and this was the FIX I needed.
Now, it doesn't matter to me how someone comes to decide what rig is right for them, they just do.  What it comes down to, is we are all bothers and sisters in this sport, and we will have sibling rivalries.  Be that as it may, I have to believe that Suzuki's are the first rig some of the folks on this board have ever owned.  This does not give one enough experience to make judgement calls on what is the best 4x4 out there.  THERE ARE MANY!  If money is tight, and ya want a capable 4 wheeler, there aren't many choices...Zuks happen to be one of em!

Peace

Well, the story behind my Zook is I want a small 4by tha was good on gas and a 2nd car.
But I was only looking at Zooks. I guess deep down inside I knew it would be the right choice. ;D
I've wheeled my Zook more than the 2 full size trucks I've had and I can do it with one tank of gas ;D
Now, I'm a firm believer in the powers of the ZOOK ;D

May the Zook be with you all ;D ;D

I run a GV, Cherokee & a 109 Landy and I have to say the Jeep owners have the biggest ego followed v closely by Landy owners, god knows why ccause my standard GV with 225-70's will quite happily go anywhere a 3in lifted wrangler and disco will go  :P

I've wheeled with a guy who used to live across the street from me... His 3" body-lifted Wrangler was almost competition to my Samurai on 31's... (both of us on 31's... except I have a spool and 4:1 t-case). I think with a locker he'd be more competition (or maybe tires other than cheap M/T's).

The only kicker to me against his Jeep is the cost. My Samurai in whole has been under $2k... and that's what he spends on his Jeep's payments alone in about 6 months.

Our wheelbases/widths make some obstacles more interesting for both of us, but 'eh... whatever.

All I know is at the end of the day, he's not an ass about his Jeep so it doesn't matter to me... I think that's because he's secretly admitting that had he known about Samurais more, he would've bought one, saved some dough, and felt more "individual" on the trail.

I agree that there are plenty of capable 4X4's out there.  I had an old Isuzu Trooper II, and if it weren't for the fact the the frame rotted out completely inthe back and by both front wheels, I"d still be driving it. (This is what led me to buying the Tracker.  It was a VERY cabable truck off road, it was built really well.  And believe you me, not too many individuals give Isuzu's much  credit.   Oh well just my .02 cents.  Dave

I laugh at Heeps and Heeps laugh at me. Maybe what all the members of Zukiworld should do is get together and start manufacturing our own rigs and start a new revolution in 4x4s! I see it now... aww hell.... anyway it's fun to think about it! Now the question is, you've just become the manufacturer of the greatest rock/trail/offroad rig known to man: What the hell to you call the model? I expect some creative names here people!

Any CJ pre-Chrysler buyout Jeep is OK with me. I wouldn't personally own a Chrysler product even if I won one on the Price is Right. I would sell it as soon as I could  :P My brother had a Ram and had more problems with it than any vehicle I had ever heard of.

I think that it boils down to the indavidual person. I have owned 2 jeeps a wrangler and XJ. Both could more than hold their own but reliability made me get rid of them. I personely wheel with quit a few jeeps in the club I am with and have nothing but good times with them. Very friendly and helpfull. Every now and then I even get to pull one of them out. I have had people snicker at me when they look at my Vitara then we go on the trail and they change there minds.  I have also had people driving Zukes snicker at me.

Just remember, the more you talk trash about them the more you are becoming just like them (if that is what you think all people that drive jeeps are like). If they say something just smile. You know what you can do on the trail.

my 2cents.

me i like all 4x4's including jeeps, and i couldn't give a rats ass what others think. i didn't buy my zuk to impress anyone, i got for my own personal enjoyment. you know i figured when you would see another modded zuk drive by you'd wave to each other, but htat doesn't seem to happen around town here. modded samurai's out number trackicks like 50-1 here, but others don't wave back, even sitting in traffic they don't look and say hi, it's strange but so be it. i think peolpe in general need an attitude adjustment  :)
