Title: Switched Ignition Source for Aux power?
Post by: yellow2000S/R on February 08, 2010, 06:45:11 PM
I need a switched ignition source on my 96 Tracker 16v. I installed electric fans and they run constant once the thermostat for them reaches 180* until it hits 170*.

I currently have it straight to the battery but it runs for 5-10 minutes till it shuts off because I drilled and tapped the housing neck above the stock thermostat and installed the electrical thermostat there for fluid temp. The aluminum housing of the thermostat acts like a huge heat sink and causes the fans to keep running till it cools to 170* or below.

The system has a relay so it's not going to be pulling a lot of power, I just want something to tap into so they shut off with the Tracker as well as make switchable for any water crossings.

Should I just tap into the cig lighter power?

what I did on my sami is bought a constant operating soliniod that closes on ignition.  I used the hot wire that ran to altinator
to close the switch on ignition.  wired my elec fuel pump, fan, and alt.  wire off the switch.   ran a heavy wire to the batt.  this way I have a good way to have a switched hot on turning the key on.  works great. been running it that way for a year.
