I have a 90 trackick that I did the head gasket in about 2 months ago. at starts up a little hard and uses a little water. I followed the directions in the FSM book and made sure the head and block had a flat surface. could there be something else that needs to be checked or did I just do it wrong. I was thinking maybe the intake gasket was bad.

its possible you have a cracked head, a leaking hose somewhere, water pump leak, it may be any of a million and 10 things. pressure test your cooling system to figure it out.

Recheck the torque on the head bolts

is the intake gasket a possibility?

x2 on that..most of the times you have to go through the torque seqence at least 3 times till it checks out...

Ya, I think on an 8V the intake could leak by getting sucked into the engine, but
I think you would have a bad miss from that.

I will check the head bolts again.

You should clean and lubricate the threads when reusing head bolts
to make sure you get the proper torque. Torque is the stretch of the
steel in the bolt, kind of like a rubber band, and the force keeps the
parts together.

it could be the tbi gasket or intake gasket when i did my head gasket i replacer both of them and i have not had a problem yet.

I just re torqued the head bolts and I am going to drive it some more and see what happens. they were all between 40 and 55lbs. after a month of being a DD
-
The spec is 45-50, I would go a little higher like 55 max to be sure

that's what I did. my other question is when it is running I was noticing the tail pipe had water coming out of it like a drop of water a second.

Engine and exhaust system cold, that is normal, after it is warmed up
you should not see any water dripping, it could be blowing steam tho
and I mean on a warm day, not when it's 30* out
