This light will come on every 50, 70, 100, etc miles. It's just the reminder to get the scheduled maintenance service.

On an older OBDI rig (1995 and older) there was a switch behind the dash to turn this light off.

On the newer OBDII rigs, there is no switch. What you will have to do is have a mechanic turn the light off by plugging a scanner into the computer. I have heard that if you unhook the battery for a couple of minutes, and then re connect it, this will clear the light also. However, this is not that reliable, and may not clear it.

They have to TELL it to turn off the light.

::)

You can get an OBDII scan tool from Checker/Kragens whatever for about $130.  What's great about having your own, is that you can monitor it while you're driving down the road, and see what's up.  When they charge you up to $100 just to hook up the scan tool, you can see how this will pay for itself in no time.

When Mrs. Bobzooki's Grand Vitara kicked out a Check Engine light, I hooked it up and determined quickly that it was a fuel system problem - guess what?  Bad gas cap!
