I have a 91 kick with 2" body and 2" susp lift with 30x9.50x15 tires, no drivetrain mods so far, should i go for a "lockright locker" or a rear spool? I would love an ARB but coin is tight and will be for a while.
I use this kick for mostly fun but i do have to drive it (approx. 3 hrs hwy) to get to my "fun". It is NOT a daily driver, just for fun on the weekends.
And while i have you "experts" here, what should i do with the front, lock it or . . . ???
The terrain i use it for is mostly fireroads and cut lines, i use it to get to remote places to hike, climb, bike and ski. So it sees some use in the winter as well with snow and in the spring andf fall with mud.
Thanks for all your input guys and dolls,

i put a lockrite in the rear of my sidekick.
one of the best mods (imo) for trail use.
it's ok on the road, once you get used to it, and is predictable.
i'm still open in front- a selectable locker would probably be best- and too pricey for me at this time......
i hear a lockright and locking and unlocking one hub works ok.

Lock rite in the back will amaze you with what you can climb, really
you only need a front locker when you get into really nasty stuff, I
just put in a front locker last year before Moab, and I used to go all
over the place open in front.
If you get a front locker invest into a twin stick or at least a 2wd low
kit for better steering with the hubs locked

First year I had my tracker I ran all over with both ends open, never got stuck. After installing a locker in the rear I stopped worrying about getting stuck, it really climbed good. Then I got an ARB for the front, it is awesome. Climbs better even without locking it, and when it is locked up it just goes. Steering is much harder when it is locked, and seems that it would be a long day on trails to have that kind of steering whenever in 4X4. With an ARB, or E locker it is just a switch away from locked to open. Pricey, but worth it if you are going to lock the front.
I would recommend puttting a locker in the rear, and if you are not experienced with setting it up, HAVE IT DONE. If not set up correctly, it will buck and kick when turning and may not function when needed. As light as the kicks are, some lockers will jump when releasing anyway.

coming from a Sami guy ...
I had a lockrite and a detroit in the rear at different points and also had a lockrite in the front.... now I have the ARB both front and rear. The other lockers worked fine except for when turning tight corners (parking lots, ect..) the rear locker would cause the whole vehicle to buck and jump....
The ARB is really nice to be selectable. Off when you don't want it and instantly on when you need it. I would do nothing but save $$$ and go with an ARB again.

I'd put the locker in the front and weld the rear. Since you don't need to use it as daily driver you won't need to worry about tire wear and other problems.

Is yours with or without power steering? I'm looking at doing a budget build with a lockright in the front but I have only ever used air lockers and wasn't sure whether I should get a twinstick or if the power steering would be enough.

I don't have power steering, and you can handle the front locker
but after a long day of hard wheeling you will know it, and extended
use can cause Popeye arms ;)

In my opinion the best budget combo is a spool in the back and a lockrite in the front. The kick is light enough that a spool does not cause any serious problems. and if installed right the front locker will unlock when you turn, it does on lil Suzy. The front suspension and steering needs to be in good shape and aligned or the locker can cause it to pull.
