Hey Guys you know what is the best size wench is for a samurai?
-
biggest that you can fit .... under 10k lbs.
-
why do you want an overweight wench? they dont do anything useful. a WINCH on the othr hand..... will usually prove handy.
-
One of the more recent 4 Wheel Off Road magazines had a winch chart that listed weight and size for the most common winches, it as a pretty good chart. If your looking for something that will pull you up a hill every few months I say go with the standard 9000 pound winch from Harbor Freight or wherever you find it cheap. If your looking for something that will recovery you quickly then you need to start looking at spending the money on a Warn or Superwinch.
-
OK! I understand that! I was looking at a superwench on sale at 4x4 off road for $149.00 but its 3000lbs? all i want to know with out going high on the weight!
-
I always figure 2 times the vehicale weight. have a 5000 lb warn on mine will pull it out of almost anywhere
-
twice the weight is good. but its usually easier and cheaper to get an 8000lb winch. overkill, but whats wrong with that...

You are wasting your money on anything less than twice the vehicle weight. Spend the extra dough for an 8000 pound winch.
As Drone637 sez, the latest issue of 4 Wheel Ofroad has an excellent article on winching.
Also, do a search for winch (yet another reason to spell winch correctly!) at Ack's FAQ (The link is in my signature) for some excellent article on winch useage.
I hope that this helps!

LMAO I miss read this post at first, I thought it said "wrench" I think "Winch" is a much better way to spell it (just my opinion ok) I agree with ack get at least a 8000lb Winch
-
of course if you meant this kind of "wench" : "wench definition
wench (wenc?h)
noun
1. a girl or young woman: now a derogatory or jocular term
2. Archaic
1. a country girl
2. a female servant
3. a sexually loose and immoral woman"
then you might want to find a six foot or taller one if you want her to help you move the Zuk some.
-
OK guys sorry for the misspelled! so you think double the weight? so that be 6000lbs?
-
You can get a harbor freight 8000 lb winch for $299
$20 more than their 5500 lb winch for $279, I would
go with the bigger one unless you are tight on room
for the bigger winch.
I just got their add last night in the mail :)

Thanks guys for all your help!

don't buy the harbor freight on I love that place and they actually have some good things but you can get a smitty built 8k for like 275 or cheaper if you have a buddy. My friend got the 12k for 315 out the door
-
guys in my area are using the vortex 12k winch comes with roller fairleed wireless remote and 12ft land line... 1 year warranty no questions asked. 299.00 no tax on out of state purchase... winch weighs 75lbs here is a pic of mine, its not finished yet but its a work in progress...
-
Dont go with anything less than a 8K winch because sure enough someone else with a bigger rig will be stuff and will beg you to pull them out and if you have a smaller winch it will either break or do nothing. With a 8K winch you will be able to move that to a larger rig and the resale on it is better also. You can get a 8K for just under $300. Try this site: http://www.ntwonline.com (http://www.ntwonline.com)
I have a Mile Marker 8K and if you are up to a little wiring you unmarry the control unit and mount it inside. This will increase the life of the unit and sure is nice to having it inside where you can reach it. I mounted mine behind my emergency brake lever.
Also if you do winch other people out I always find a stout tree to place my front bumber against that way you are not placing all of that stress on the mounts of your bumper and besides you almost always have to tie off to something so you will not get pulled into whatever slop the other rig is buried in. :)

I'm just going with 2 lewis winches. put a 6hp chainsaw on one, and you've got 4k pullin capacity with the block setup, and 150' of cable. they're pricey at $800, but worth it. theres also imitators, but their products arent as good.
-
Thanks for the tip Bob, never heard of Lewis winches before, but that I have, it looks like an interesting product.
-
I like the lewis winch simply because the concept is really simple, and its totally self sufficient/self containd, requiring nothing of the vehicle or object being pulled.
