Title: 1.3 idles out of control after swap.
Post by: us74k5 on February 28, 2010, 11:04:56 AM
Just replaced the 1.3 in my 86 sami. Now the engine starts up just fine, then just proceeds to idle all the way to 4-5k. Twice it has started and idled just fine for a minute or so, then it just races away. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

this sounds like a major vacuum leak issue to me,  I'd look into all the vacuum hoses, make sure they're tight/solid and not leaking.   also make sure your carb isnt loose on the manifold.

Carb is solid, cannot find a vacuum leak anywhere... I have no idea what else to look at.

spray carb cleaner around the outside and listen for changing
RPM, also check the brake booster line, however a carb engine
should run bad and stall with a major vacuum leak like that, where
a FI engine will rev due to extra air.

Also check the fast idle cam and choke to make sure they are
turning off when the engine warms up
