Title: Coil Spacer Questions
Post by: explosivo on June 29, 2004, 03:25:55 PM
When using 2" coil spacers, is there anything that is needed to be done to the 3rd link in the rear? Any spacers or anything necessary?

Also, will just flipping the strut mounts do for the front?

When I had mine with 2" spacers all I did to the rear was extend the shock brackets, the center link should be fine.  In the front you will gain a little more than 2" of lift so I would recommend making up some strut spacers or you will be topping out the struts on bumps. You might want to get 4 door rear springs for the rear to level it all out also.

How far up did you relocate the shock mounts? And how much longer are the 4 door springs?

I was thinnking about the same thing.

im thinking of using a 1/2" plate and drill some holes in it and use some longer bolts and put it in between the diff and the 3rd member baljoint. ;)

I made a 2" spacer for the top of the shocks. I used the rear springs only to level it up, I think it was about an inch.

I don't think spacing it should be necessary. I don't think that the calmini 2" kit addresses the third link either. Perhaps Ziggy or someone else that ran this kit could clarify.

With the Calmini 2" Kit there is no adjustment to the rear links. So I dont think that you would need to build one.

Hmm i dunno cause raising the truck the 3rd member begins to tilt a bit more i was going to do a 1/2" steel plate just to give it that bit more play i dunno. Opions?

I would definately give you a little better drop before it bound with longer shocks. But be shre to watch how far the drive shaft is sliding out of the T-Case.

When your doing the spacers and have the shocks unbolted, you can see how far it will drop before binding simpally be raising and lowering the axle with a jack with the vehicle on jack stands.

Oh, you just spaced the tops out... you didn't fabricate new mounts on the axle then (that's what I thought you meant ;))?

So 2" coil spacers will give closer to 2.5-3" in the front? Also, I'm going to attempt to make my own spacers, so rather than getting longer springs for the rear, I might just make 2.5-3" spacers for the back. Or maybe 1.5-1.75" in the front and 2" in the back just to avoid the complications that more spacer brings about. ;)

It's not a huge difference but I prefer my truck to sit level instead of front high. I think if you make the rear spacer 1/2 inch bigger than the front it should work out perfect. It will also depend on how your truck sits now, take some measurements from frame to ground front and rear before you start.

You can install the RRO coil spacers in the front and remove the soft factory ones.

I'm avoiding paying $80+S&H for oversized hockey pucks with holes in them :-/

Ok then, let me rephrase it "You can install same height coil spacers in the front and in the back, and remove the tiny front factory ones" ;)

Mine sits level and the ride is better than stock to me. I thought they were a good deal myself.
