Title: Spring New Jersey Pine Barrens Run March 27/28
Post by: bentparts on March 04, 2010, 04:29:55 AM
Starting a new thread regarding the spring Pine Barrens Run seeing there's some interest. So far we've got Me ( bentparts) and ecoast going for the weekend of the 27th/28th of March. Either day, Sat or Sun is good. Anyone else interested, chime in. For those of you more that an hour or two away, I have room at my place to crash ( no pun intended) if you need it.
For anyone trailering your rigs, there's parking for large trailers at the Atsion Ranger Station located on RT 206 S and Quakerbridge/Atsion Rd. I also have a large paved parking area at my place too. To run in the Wharton State Forest you need a quasi street legal rig, meaning tags and proof of reg and insurance.

Hell, the Pine Barrens, Wharton State Forest, Bryden Byrne, and Chatsworth are all FREE. All you need is a street legal rig. I't's gonna be an all day ride, so be prepared with lunch, snacks and drinks and such. Just make sure your rig is prepared and ready too. A CB is also a good idea if you've got one. For more info on the area google Wharton State Forest, New Jersey and Pinelands National Reserve. Over 1,000,000 acres. Many, many miles of forest trails, fire cuts, and very primitive trails. We still haven't settled on a day yet, Saturday or Sunday. It's up to the Majority, Either is good for me, I only live a half hour form there. I'd like to be rolling on the Trails by no later than 10:00am, so meetup at the Atsion Ranger Station on RT 206 S and Atsion/Quakerbridge Rd. around 9:00am. Make sure you have a full tank of gas too.

either day is good; but being there |removethispart|@ 9AM is bad!

I've been talking to redidbull; also a friend, and he's in CT.

So it's about 2 hours for me, and a bit more for him... we'll do our best.

Of course, my rig is still in pieces!   :sleepy:

You guys are welcome to stay here if you want. I've got a spare room with it's own bathroom, and another sleeping place ( futon) if you'd like.

Re-timed belt; I was one tooth off. New radiator; first one from rockauto leaked...warranteed, no prob.
Pulled the front bumper, pushbar, axle,  and S/R yesterday; no turning back now...

;) Ha!  Been there too! I take it this isn't the 4 door you picked up down south? I mean you could have slapped a little lift and some tires on that one and been good to go down here ( well, with a tow strap, some floatation gear, and a willingness to get out and push a lot!) Just kidding ya.  I'm working on some roof repair on my addition, and ceiling repair to the same ( had some water damage after all that wet snow.) Should be done with that by the end of the week. If you still need a hand I could come up early next week for a day of welding and wrench thrashin'.

Count me in, but the Zuk won't be ready by then (no garage + limited time = not getting done)

Geoff and I will be wheeling the family truckster (the Dakota)

Hey Jerseyzuks, were a "nondenomational" group. All faiths are welcome, even jeeps and dodges! Franklinville is only about a half hour or less from me, how come we've never hooked up before?

I'm not sure.  Have you ever been to GonZookin or Zuwharrie?  How about the Pine Barron's clean up run?

Where about's are you located?

I was at the last gonzukin in Rousch Creek, and last years PineBarrens Clean Up Run. I live in Runnemeade on Evesham Rd. I'm kinda hard to miss with the bright Red / polished aluminum trimmed Tracker. Pretty sure it's the only turbocharged one around too.

I'm one of the organizers of GonZookin... I'm the guy that calls the raffle on Sat night.   I missed the PineBarrens clean up last year.

Depending on the weather, we will probably be doing some wheeling on Sat, camping Sat night, then meeting up with everyone else on Sunday.  If anyone wants to meet up with us for a run on Sat, or wants to camp with us on Sat night, email me at

Been raining again, so the trails WILL BE muddy, and some deep water crossings to be expected. Got a call from a friend on mine who's a volunteer fire fighter for the forest service yesterday. Seem there have been some incidents of " booby traps " being found in some of the mud holes and low areas in the trails where water collects. The traps are pretty elaborate, consisting of a welded together framework with tire ripping spikes layed out on rows. They lie just below the water level, and due to the muddy nature of the water cannot be seen easily. It's believed ( by the Forest Service ) that they're the work of a radical tree hugger group who want to keep vehicles out of the trails. What's weird is they are mostly found on the MAIN through roads in the forest, where most of the tourest traffic is. We will be on those roads for only a short time getting to the real trails, but have to keep alert.
The forcast for Sunday is cloudy with showers, so be prepared for wet weather. we may need to get out and pull " booby traps" out of the water holes. Hope to see you all there!

I just saw this.  It a little late to get going.  Would there be room for a motorhome if it is on Saturday.  Opps looks like it is on Sunday.  Not sure that would work.  Darn

Still kicking it around.

Plenty  of room for your motorhome  skitime if you decide to come. If you wanted to come Sat. evening, you could park at the Ranger Station and stay there, There's a large ( 4/5 acre parking area on grass for all the horse and motorbike trailers that come on the nicer weekends) but there's no hookups. You could also park it at my place, I have a pretty large driveway, and I can hook you up with electric.

i'm still in. my buddy justin knows every trail in Wharton State forest is coming in his HUGE Toyota SAS on 38.5 boggers too! should be a good day of trails. There was a ton of water out there last weekend, so be warned. But i didn't flood my tracker and i went everywhere and i'm only 3-3.5" Suspension on 31" BFG AT's NO SNORKEL.... so don't be scared everything is  bypass-able!

See you gyus out there!  FYI I'm Mark (easy to spot... i'm 6'6" 230)  I'll be in a white 90 tracker.

Anyone aware of any last minute cancellations of the entire trip please call me.... i don't get on here much

Yes, it did actually happen, and no, not one of us decided to bring a camera, or even take pice with our cell phones! Talk about a lazy bunch, all we did is ride all day, and pull each other out of the mud! Fun was had by all though , just no pics.

I'm going to be at Raush Creek this Saturday as a last offroading event then it's getting torn apart for at least new rings (compression is horrible), the rear crossmember replaced as its rotted out (fuel filter is ziptied up cause bracket ripped off and the majority of the center of the bar is gone). Probably do a 2-3" body lift, then possibly a steel rear bumper after I redo the mounts for my front bumper.

IF I have time after all that I might try to get the turbo on in time for the Gonzookin event.
