I get warm air coming from the floor and the defroster settings, but only cold air coming from the dash vents. Any ideas? I have a spare set of heater plumbing just in case. Thanks.

if this is on a samurai then look at the slide control and it will show you were the warm air should be coming from. mine shows only defrost and floor like you described.

It's an 87 JX. The panel shows a setting for the dash.

But does it show red or blue for the dash setting! Red is heat and blue is cool.

One of the weird things about the Samurai heating system is that the dash vents are for air conditioning/fresh air only.
They are not connected to the heater's air flow.

this is interesting info, I never realized the dash vents were ac only. makes sense though, cold air sinks, and warm air rises, so the concept is a good idea.

wow... this answers my question as well. ive been trying to figure this out today...lol. thats very weird thats the case tho for it not to be able to blow warm air from the dash vents...hmmmm. o well. thanks yall.

I know what you're sayin. when I turned the heat on,I swore somthing wasnt right, as the dash vents werent blowing warm air.

it's one of those samurai things...like when people buy one and call me...."how do you open the hood?" I could have made a fortune over the years with the cold air problem.
If you got heat coming out at the defrost then you're one step ahead of most of us.....alot of times the mud/debris falls into the vents on the hood and end up plugging the heater core resulting in no air flow to give heat at the window.
I drove my LJ for 4 weeks before finding the valve to open the coolant flow....I thought the heater was messed up but it was only a closed valve.

THAT one, I'll never understand. its one of those "what were you thinking?" things to me. I wouldnt mind relocating it to the drivers side if I can ever figure out how without having to extend things or cut a million new holes.

Most samurais are convertibles....read: easy to break into, with a sharp pocket knife. The glovebox actually has a lock on it, so if someone would break in, then they would still have to get into the locked glovebox (not that it would be too hard) to get the hood open.
Or it is just because it was a convenient place to put the release. :P

are you kidding? I spent 30 seconds and asked the dude I bought it from because I forgot it was in the glovebox.
I dont think the convertible theory makes any sense though. if that did, I'd think a lot more convertible vehicles would keep the hood release there too. I will however buy the belief that it was an effort to make the sammy stand out even more from the jeep and other 4x4 models.
