Title: ATTENTION tracker954x4 Got a Question for Ya!
Post by: kozaz on March 10, 2010, 06:06:46 PM
I was browsing through the gallery and saw your rack. It looks great! Could you elaborate on it?

QUESTIONS:

What is the rack from?

Rack Siize?

How much weight do think it can hold, MAX?

Does the rack have to come off to remove your softtop?

If you have to remove it, do you remove it with the brackets attached to the rack, or do you remove the rack from the brackets?

Can you explain how you attached it to the sides, close up pics would great!

If you were to build it again, what would you do different?

Thanks!
Ryan

First of all thanks ;D
I was browsing through the gallery and saw your rack. It looks great! Could you elaborate on it?

QUESTIONS:

What is the rack from?
It actually was made from a universal basket that simply attached to an existing luggage rack
Rack Siize?
If I remember correctly it was approximately 3'x4' :-\
How much weight do think it can hold, MAX?
Not really sure on its max weight, I had about 200#s in it once upon a time and it stayed together....
Does the rack have to come off to remove your softtop?
No, that was the beauty of it. ;D I had just enough room to get the front of the top loose and slide it under the front and then fold the rear bow down.
If you have to remove it, do you remove it with the brackets attached to the rack, or do you remove the rack from the brackets?
The brackets would stay attached to the truck, all i had to remove was the four bolts that held the rack to the brackets.
Can you explain how you attached it to the sides, close up pics would great!
I had the brackets bolted to the truck and then a single bolt attached each of the four legs to the brackets. I'll have to look and see if i can find some close up pictures, Its no longer on my tracker, I took it off mainly because i got tired of having to reweld the basket to the legs. It vibrated a bit too much and fatigued the metal.
If you were to build it again, what would you do different?
If i were to do it over again i would change the design of the support hoops and the way they attached to the basket to make it more durable. Aside from that it worked pretty great, had it on there for several years before i took it off. Might change te way it mounted to the vehicle cause now i have a few holes in the side that i can't easily get rid of. lol
Thanks!
Ryan
Ryan, hope this answers your questions
