Are the 3rd members interchangeable on stock axels from the same vehicle?
I think your asking if you can swap 3rd members front to back on a Samurai. If so, then the answer is no. While the 3rds are very similar and will physically fit, one must change the sidegears, which do interchange, in order to swap front to back. The front axles are 22 spline and the rear are 26.

so are you saying Eric, that you can easily swap out the side spider gears, and then you can install it into your rear axle housing? is it that simple?

Yeah. The sidegears are the difference between front and rear 3rds. So if you feel comfortable changing them, (should put in a locker while your at it) then yes, it's that simple.
