I've had mine to 7K more than once and for more than just a few minutes and it held up for a while. It's not an every day thing but as long as you run good oil it's going to run. I run Amzoil and it's all the difference in the world.

I pulled out a full size once and got stuck...they were laughing at me and I told them $50 and I get out myself...who wants to bet? I got two takes so I either will loose $100 or make a $100....I got in and hit the pedal and when the zuke hit 7K I dumped the clutch.....it took about 2 minutes of first reverse at very high revs and I all of a sudden just launched out...and collected my $100....

My dad was borrowing my stock samurai for a fishing trip. I gave him a few directions if he got stuck. So later in the day he was in some mud and he got stuck. His friend got upset and he told him to sit down and hold on. My son gave me some instructions to get out.
He said hold on and the guy was like "yeah right". He told me.....

1. clutch pedal in    2. first gear   3. gas to floor   4. tack to 7000 RPM   5. dump clutch

When all forward movement ends then repeat above using reverse gear....

He hit the gas, dumped the clutch and it was like he was never stuck...his friend almost shit his pants and he's still talking about the zuke.

They will rev like snot...when you hit 5K you can feel it either go or tell you that is enough.

The redline for US samurais with the 1.3 (can't see any other countries samurais being any different) is 6500 RPM.

Guys/gals, the simple answer here is this: You know where the redline is just before the motor blows up!

I have a later model with EFI.
The 1990-1994 Supplementary Service Manual
states, on page 4A-23:

"Fuel cut
 ...
... when the engine speed exceeds 6,8000 r/min,
the fuel supply is cut to protect the engine by
making the injector operating time as ineffective
injection time. The normal injection is restored
when the engine speed is 6,500 r/min or lower. "

Carburated and EFI engines are very similar (almost identical).
