Title: softtop to hardtop
Post by: kansascitytracker on July 14, 2004, 01:56:15 PM
This topic may have been covered before, but since I am somewhat new to this site, I was wondering what it takes to swap over a softtop to a hardtop. I found a hardtop for $250, which I have been told by at least 30 people not to pass up. Hardware all the same??? I am curious

I would put my own upgraded hardware on anyway.  real red sammi had to mud with his top on for a rare occasion last nite and the factory mounts shook loose.  His top bounced off, but luckily stayed on the truck.  The only thing that you might have to change is that softtop channel across the top of the windshield, but that's no biggie, just get the hard one and see if it's in the way or not.  $250 is darn close to a steal, especially if the top is in good cond.  If your not gonna get it, let me know where I can.

It takes about 45 minutes to swap out the hardware from ST to HT if you're taking your time...all you need is a phillips screwdriver and maybe some WD-40. I just did the swap back from HT to ST  ;)

I run either myself, depending on the season. Right now with it so warm, I'm running the soft top. for $250, it's a deal if it's in good shape. And since I'm guessing you mean for a track/kick instead of a sammy(because of your nickname). If that's the case, you usually unbolt the soft top hardware and frame, leaving the front latches but removing the front frame and pivots and that's it. Some rear sections need a plate screwed onto the lower rear corners of the targa bar for the hard top to attach to, but the front section should just clip right into the factory latches...
