Title: Need some Kick wiring harness info (compatibility)
Post by: hcgalvin on July 09, 2004, 04:39:09 AM
Here's my dilemma.

I need to know what differences there are, if any, between a 91-95 Track/Kick AUTO wiring harness.

What I am seeing is that the wiring harness for a 91 truck with the 8 valve that has the "modern" intake and TBI, has what looks like the EXACT same connecters as my 95 16 valve does.

Abeit the 91 was an Auto and mine is a Manual so there might be a couple of connector differences...

Idea (and PLEASE DON'T BURN ME ON THIS)...

Take a working 91 8 valve engine and put it in a newer body with running gear and harness.

Will the plugs work? Will just the ECU have to be changed?

I was hoping maybe some of you guys that have done the reverse, ie: put in a 16 valve motor in place of your 8 valve... could tell me.

Input?

Thanks

Heather

my 2 cents worth

there is an orange-black wire between the t-case and the computer that signals the computer to activate the pump for the front diff. if you mess with the 3 wires that go to the pump from the computer  all sort of strange things happen. there is also an orange-white wire from the t-case to the computer that signals the computer and auto trans for lo-range.

I had swap out a 8v caburetor model with a 16v. I had to swap all the wiring harness in the engine bay and also in the dashboard. If you were to swap out a 16v and put in a tbi, I believe you had to do the same. The only other way, but more expensive is to send the tbi wiring harness to Trail Tough for custom wiring and labelling. Then you just install the new wiring without removing the 16v ones. You then will have the option of going back to 16v in the future cos the wiring is still there.
