Title: spark problems. 86 samurai. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: skookzuker on April 03, 2010, 07:58:47 PM
i got a samurai with a stock 1.3 motor in it. i was going wheelin one day and my motor just died on me when i was goin threw a hole. its not getting any spark. i checked the resistance on my coil and my distributer and ther both fine. i replaced the computer and that isnt the problem. im getting power to everything but im not getting any spark out of my coil. i tore apart my wireing harness to see if i can fined any bad wires and there wasnt any. im compleatly stumped on this one.

only thing I can think of that makes ANY sense is the coil on your firewall is DOA. is it original or aftermarket?

This may sound silly to ask but did you check your coil wire?  it's easy to over look
 when you get frustrated >:(

You need to replace the ignitor in the distributor,
probably easier to just get a used distributor for it

thats most of your problem, you're buying USED parts.  buy BRAND NEW and it will probably work.  used ignition parts is pretty much a gamble, it may work, it may not.  you just dont know.  resistance tests even dont make much of a difference to me.

i priced a new ditributer out and its 400. i know i should buy new parts and its a gamble but 400 for a part that might not be the problem is a gamble to. its fustrating

im not getting any spark out of the coil. i have power to my coil but no spark. i think my distributer is fine. i cant know its my distributer because if i dont get any spark out of the coil how will i know the distibuter is bad or good? i have to get power out of my coil first to get power to my distibuter. why am i not getting any power out of my coil if my coil is good and i got power going to my coil???????

check your primary/secondary wires going TO the coil on the vehicle harness. I'm betting you're missing something REDICULOUSLY simple.  might even just be a fuse in the panel under the dash.
